Lava Larvae appear to consume electrical energy as a food source, having evolved in the electromagnetically active Lava Zones where thermal vents generate significant current. They are a persistent hazard to vehicle-based exploration in the deep zones.

Survival Tips
- 1Lava Larvae spawn on the ground and lava flows in the Lava Zones — they will attach to the Seamoth or PRAWN Suit if you drive over or too close to them.
- 2To remove an attached Lava Larva, exit your vehicle and grab it with your hands (interact). They don't damage you as a player.
- 3Check your vehicle energy bar regularly in the Lava Zones. A sudden drain usually means you have one or more Larvae attached.
- 4The PRAWN Suit's Thermal Reactor upgrade generates power from the ambient heat of the Lava Zone, partially offsetting Larva drain.
- 5Staying airborne with PRAWN jump jets reduces contact with Lava Larvae on the ground. Don't idle on lava surfaces.
